Caitríona is a Secondary School teacher in a mixed ability school with a significant cohort of students with special needs. She has a major interest in how horses can benefit all types of people and disabilities. She has had horses since she was 12 and has experienced, first hand, the benefits of contact with them. This knowledge led her to discover Eagala Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Assocition and embark on the journey of becoming a certified Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Facilitator.
Caitríona is EAGALA Certified and a fully qualified Instructor of Monty Robert’s Methods of Natural Horsemanship, the third in Ireland. Her aim is to help people to experience and benefit from, the power of horses. She has experience of running sessions for youths, youth at risk, individuals, groups, families, youths and adults with additional needs. She works with a psychotherapist, Jean Robertson, running therapy sessions for people of all ages and abilities.
The latest of which uses horses to teach Social, Personal and Health Education(SPHE) to second level students as part of Wellbeing. The project was featured in the Eagala Newsletter, Leinster Leader, The Irish Field, and an ETBI newsletter. KFM radio also interviewed Caitríona about the project. The project formed part of the deliverables for a Professional Diploma in Entrepreneurial Education, run by the Innovation Academy in UCD.
